Understanding The Reason for Your Existence (Purpose) – Part 1

Who am I? Why am I here on earth? What am I here for? Why am I different? How can I fulfil the reason (assignment) for which I was created? These are pertinent and crucial questions which we often do not reflect on or even ask.

But think of it for a minute! Do you think you were just created to exist merely? Or perhaps, you came out of the pleasure of your parents?

Be deceived not, everything in this life, has a purpose and a reason for which they exist or was made. Even more importantly, is you. Yes, I mean you! You were created for a purpose – a mandate you have fulfil. It is this purpose (reason for your existence), that will give your life meaning, dictate your course of action and give you true happiness. In fact, purpose is that which will drive your motivation and embolden you to commit to impacting lives and making society better. It is your purpose that distinguishes you from the many others.

Hence, without purpose, life would merely be an experimental journey of trial and error, resulting in frustration, disappointment, and failure. Without purpose, others will use you to achieve their interests and dump you. In the words of Thomas Carlyle, “The man without purpose is like a ship without a rudder – a waif, a nothing, a no man”. It is therefore imperative to understand and discover your purpose in life so that you can experience an effective, fulfilled and rewarding life.

What then is purpose?

Two definitions of PURPOSE suffice in this write-up. First, purpose is the original intent for the creation of a thing. Second, purpose is the original reason for the existence of a thing.

These definitions suggest that the purpose of anything is determined by the creator of hence, every product is produced by purpose and for a purpose. It exists for its original purpose and thus can find its true fulfilment only in performing the purpose for which it was created.

In that similitude, God the creator, created you with a definite purpose in mind. Your existence is evidence that your generation needs something that your life contains. You are the tool that God can use to change the world and use to meet his desired results of impacting others in this world. This suggests that you must take responsibility and strive to be who you were born to be because the world needs you.
